Introduction

This is my first post to this new blog site. I have never done this before. I chose the name for this site as "Liberal Values". What I would like to promote with this site is a society of tolerance and compassion for the less fortunate, a sense of justice for all. At this time it seems our society is too polarized between right and left. I am concerned with our current administration, that we are destroying the future, with the rapid destruction of the environment, the heavy deficit spending and an increasingly alarming war in Iraq. On the other hand, I cannot fully join with people on the left either. Because I believe abortion involves the taking of a human life, I tend more toward the "conservative" side of this issue, particularly on late term abortions, although I do not believe it should be outlawed. I also disagree with those further to the left who defend repressive Marxist regimes, such as Cuba. This has become quite a controversy within the American Library Association of all places. More on that later.

Stephen, you haven't told your readers about your work with Amnesty International. Certainly that would be of interest.

Thanks, Steve. Basically, I am the Vietnam country specialist for Amnesty International USA, a volunteer position. It involves monitoring the general situation in Vietnam and being a consultant to local groups working on Vienam cases. I might talk more about this later.
Welcome to my blog site.
